From the MS-DOS prompt, type del *.tmp /s and del *.chk /s to delete any temporary files on the hard drive. Run regedit, move to the top of the hives (to My Computer) Press Ctrl-F (Find) and type "Compress Old" (no quotes) When regedit finds the offending key, press the Delete key I encountered the same thing with my Presario laptop which I used rarely. It will sit there all day if I leave it. In my case,disk cleanup would hang for about ten minutes and shut my laptop down completely. Hot Scripts offers tens of thousands of scripts you can use. I have cancelled it and tried to restart the program to to no avail it does not run properly.
