For what it is worth with new iMasc purchased a cheap Samsung external optical drive to overcome furutre failings of the internal. It's like the computer doesn't recognise it. Got a tip for us? I changed the drive to a new one that helped.

  1. The default DVD player is very sensitive to the quality of DVD disc, if your DVD is scratched or dirty, you can try a third party free DVD player like VLC
  2. Buy an external dvd/cd burner or get optical drive repaired?
  3. The Repair Disk Permissions process is performed.
  4. It just says "The disc you inserted is not readable by this computer." and then asks if I want to Ignore or Eject.
